Works like DMATMOOBIL can be deceivingly lengthy. Often, they are read on continuous scrolling pages and updated a chapter at a time. Thus, it was a delightful discovery that DMATMOOBIL was almost 800 pages long.
This made having strong interior design even more important. If a reader is to be on this adventure for nearly 800 pages, those pages should be pleasant to the eyes.
The typefaces chosen fit the book’s witty yet elegant tone with the modern serif and script pairing. Ample margins were given to let the text breathe on the pages.

capturing the magic
Love. Snark. Magic. DMATMOOBIL has it all! Finding a way to represent the novel resulted in several fun iterations. Roses play an important role in the story so it was imperative to include them in the cover design. In the end, the cover combined elements of them all.
By playing with the typography, maximizing those illustrations, and exploring different color pallets, the cover design came together. The dark blue background helped make the illustrations pop and give the design a more mature style. Tiny sparkles and plants are also sprinkled throughout, giving it even more whimsy.

Putting together Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love was a delightful experience. From typesetting the beefy interior to creating the magical cover, there was nary a dull moment. Capturing elegance, magic, and romance was an exciting challenge.
What fun it would be if there is an alternative world to do it all again! And it made for the perfect personal project for a friend’s birthday!
